Hansandaecheob was a gread and decisive victory of Joseon against Japan and

changed the whole history of Imjinwaeran during the Joseon Dynasty.

 

Historical Singnificance of the Great Battle of Hansan(Naval Battle)

 

The Great Battle of Hansan was an all-out war where the allied fleet of Joseon and the naval forces lead by Wakisaka Yasharu which had the strongest fighting force in Japan were competing with each other with strategies and tactics.

It was a big naval battle from which either side could not retreat as the very existence of the nation was at stake for Chosun and victory or defeat of the war for Japan.

If Japan had seized command of the sea as the result of victory in the Great Battle of Hansan and had entered into the West Sea turning around the South Sea, the Japanese Army and Navy in parallel would have advanced into Ming and the shameful history of the Japanese Annexation of Korea(1910) we have gone through in the last century might have been backdated by about 300 years.

Historians are evaluating that there was a good possibility for the Japanese to dominate the continent when we consider the extremely chaotic situation of Ming with internal and external troubles.

The Japanese Navy which has been defeated in the Great Battle of Hansan come to receive a strict order of

Toyotomi Hideyoshi to avoid battle with the fleet of Yi Sun-sin.

The victory in the Great Battle of Hansan became the watershed which changed the direction of the war to victory for Chosun by undoubtedly breaking the triumphant spirit of Japan during the 7 year Imjin Japanese Invasion War.

The Japanese invaders planned to advance to Ming joining the unit of Koshini Yukinaka which was occupying Pyeongyang after seizing the command of the sea through this naval battle.

But all the Japanese invaders including the unit of Koshini Yukinaka could not but retreat to the south giving up Hanyang, the capital of Chosun, which it had occupied after much effort because the supply route could not secured due to defeat in the Great Battle of Hansan.

So, We commemorate this greatest win in Korea, has annual festival. This festival has been 50 years.

한산대첩은 임진왜란때 일본에게 맞서싸운 조선왕조의 결정적인 승리를 알리는 전쟁이었다.

한산대첩의 역사적 중요성

 

한산대첩은 이순신 장군의 연합함대와 일본 최강의 전투력을 보유한 와키자카 야스하루가 이끄는 

수군부대와의 전략 전술을 겨루는 총력전 이었다.

조선으로서는 국가의 존망이 일본에게는 전쟁의 승패가 걸린 물러설수 없는 대 해전이었다.

만약 이 해전이 일본의 승리로 돌아가 일본이 재해권을 장악하고 남해를 돌아 서해로 진출 했다면

일본은 수륙 병진하여 조선을 점령하고 명나라로 진격 하였을 것이다.

그리고 우리가 겪었던 국권침탈(1910년)의 치욕적인 역사는 어쩌면 300여 년전에 되었을지도 모른다.

역사가들은 만약 한반도를 점령했을 경우 국가 내외로 큰 문제가 있었던 명나라에게 치명적인 타격을 줄 수 있었다고 말한다.

한산해전에서 패한 왜군은 "앞으로 이순신 함대와는 싸움을 피하라!"는 도요토미 히데요시의 엄명을 받게 된다.

한산대첩은 임진왜란 7년 전쟁중 의기양양했던 왜적의 기세를 여지없이 꺾어 놓음으로써 전쟁의 방향을

조선의 승리로 돌려놓은 분수령이 되는 승첩 이었다.

왜적들은 이 해전을 통하여 재해권을 장악한 연후에 평양을 점령하고 있던

고니시 유키나카 부대와 합류하여 명나라로 진격 하려 했다.

그러나 이 해전에서 패배로 보급로가 차단되어 평양까진 진출한 고니시 유키나카 부대를 포함한 모든 왜적은

애써 점령한 조선의 수도 한양을 포기하고 남쪽으로 후퇴하지 않을 수 없었다.

이에 이충무공의 위대한 승리 한산대첩을 기념하고자 1962년부터 삼도수군통제영의 본영에서 해마다 축제를 열어

승첩을 기념하고 있으니 올해로 반세기 축제 50주년을 맞이 하였다.
